About capitol Hill Elementary
Capitol Hill is a close-knit school community dedicated to supporting the diverse needs of every child. Families, teachers, and staff work together to create a rich, well-rounded program that helps students reach their full potential—academically and through the performing and visual arts. We’re especially proud of our exceptional teachers, many of whom have been part of the Capitol Hill community for years.
Basic Info:
- Hours: School starts at 8:00am and gets out at 2:30pm
- Buses: Buses are available before and after school (bonus — this helps ease congestion for parents dropping off and picking up!)
- Menu: Capitol Hill provides FREE breakfast and lunch for every student. You can view the current menu here. In addition to the daily lunch entrée, PB&J and yogurt are always available, along with fresh fruits, vegetables, and milk for all students.
Before & After School Care:
- We know busy, working families need the flexibility to extend the learning day before and after school. Champions provides before and after-school care for our students on-site.
- Champions also provides coverage during Winter Break and other break periods
School Features:
- Specials: Kids at Capitol Hill enjoy 4 "specials" every week — library, music, art and gym. These programs help enrich our students with learning outside their daily classroom.
- School Garden: Located at the center of campus, our school garden connects to multiple classrooms and gives students the opportunity to plant, tend, and learn through hands-on experience.
- After School Classes: We offer seasonal after-school enrichment classes at Capitol Hill — these include classes like theater, chess, yoga, lego engineering, watercolors, music classes, French & Spanish! These classes offer our students additional growth opportunities alongside their friends.

HOW OUR PTA SUPPORTS CAPITOL HILL
We’re proud to have an active and engaged PTA at Capitol Hill. Our goal is to support students, teachers, and families while building a strong, connected school community. Through fun events and fundraisers, we bring people together and provide extra support that helps enrich every child’s learning experience.
Annual Events:
- VIP Day - Your child gets to invite a special guest to see their classroom at the beginning of the year
- The Big Boo! - Our Halloween carnival. A huge celebration throughout the school with games, arts & crafts, the haunted library and a DJ. One of our student’s favorite events of the year.
- Book Fair - The classic Scholastic book fair — funds go directly to support the school.
- OBOB - The Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries. It’s a great opportunity for 3rd through 5th graders to participate in some friendly competition and to have fun reading.
- The Auction - The Capitol Hill School Auction is our biggest fundraiser of the year and is what allows our PTA to do all the many things we do to make our school a great place to grow.
- Family Fun Nights - Fun evenings like movie nights, a school dance, and Community BBQ!
How We Support Students & Staff:
The PTA coordinates and funds many school events and activities including the following.
- Classroom budgets for teachers: $1,000 per teacher for classroom supplies, field trips, etc.
- 4th/5th grade special field trips
- Garden/ground maintenance funds
- School Play/Musical
