Holiday Giving

Ever year, Capitol Hill Elementary runs a giving program, to share cheer with our fellow students and their families. Beginning Monday, November 18th, there will be a display outside of the front office with wish tags. These are wishes from our school friends!

  • Select a tag
  • Purchase the desired gift
  • Tape the tag to the unwrapped item
  • Drop it in the donation box at school before December 9th
  • Melissa and the CHE team will ensure the gift makes it into the hands of the receiving family

Do you have a friend or family member who loves a giving tree? They're welcome to donate as well! This is such a fun way to lovingly show up for our community and ensure that every family experiences the magic of the season.

Keep an eye out for future communication from the administrative team, as there will be more opportunities to donate household items, goods, and food to community members in need!

Questions? Contact Melissa Light in the front office at mlight@pps.net

Dining Out Night

Monday, November 25th is our second Dining Out Night of the year. Yalla in Multnomah Village has generously offered to donate 10% of the night's sales to Capitol Hill! That includes dining in, takeout (which will be limited), and gift card sales. Make a reservation now to enjoy a delicious night of no cooking with your friends and family!

Parent/Teacher Conferences & Potluck

Thank you to all of the families who stepped up to volunteer to feed CHE staff during parent/teacher conferences! Don't forget your items (click here to see the list).
Did you miss the opportunity to feed our teachers? Bring a treat to your conference! Click here to see what type of treat or caffeinated beverage your child's teacher might enjoy.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Coordinator - PTA Board

Have you been interested in joining the PTA? Our board has an open position for a Volunteer Coordinator. This role is responsible for rounding up awesome parents/caretakers and plugging them into volunteer openings! It's a good fit for an organized person who is a clear communicator, and can mostly be done outside of working hours. The best part? You get to work with Tabitha Ames - which means it's going to be an easy plug-and-play gig without a huge learning curve. Email volunteer@capitolhillelementary.com if you are interested or have questions.

Capitol Hill Auction

Every year, some of the most popular items at the CH auction are the grade-level art pieces. We are looking for creative adults to work with grades 1, 4, and 5 on their pieces. You come up with the concept (example pictured to the left), then partner with the teachers to come into the classroom and get the kids to do the dirty work! Click here to sign up.

Not feeling creative? We still have a job for you. Sign up to assist with donation procurement - it's as simple as filling out donation request forms on company websites - we provide you the info, you copy and paste while you watch The Bear after the kids have gone to bed! Yes chef!

Join a Capitol Hill PTA Meeting

The Capitol Hill PTA is a wonderful group of parents and school staff who oversee almost every event that our students enjoy!

The PTA meets monthly. Meetings are hosted by the board, and open to all parents and Capitol Hill staff. Each meeting has a guest speaker or topic of the month, and is a great chance to ask questions, meet other families, and learn about the work we are doing to raise funds for our teachers and school. You do not need to be a paying member to join a meeting.

Upcoming meetings:

December 11

January 8

February 5

March 12

April 9

May 14

5:30pm - 6:30pm in the Capitol Hill Library. If you're unable to attend in person, a Zoom link is sent the week of the meeting. All are welcome.
