The Big Boo!

It is almost time for our annual fall carnival extravaganza, The Big Boo! Join the frightful fun on Friday, October 25th from 6pm-8pm, if you dare, for:

  • Dancing
  • Bounce house jumping
  • Face painting
  • Carnival games
  • Creepy crafting
  • Photo booth
  • Snacks & refreshments (did somebody say cotton candy!?)
  • The return of everyone's favorite Haunted Library

Tickets go on sale on Monday, October 21st on the PTA Website. $20 for unlimited access, chaperoning parents join for FREE.

Interested in helping make this ghoulish gala a screaming success? This beloved event runs on fresh volunteer blood! There are still some spots open for volunteers to hand out tickets (before & after school or night-of at the doors), run games (30 minute shifts during the event that can be done by adults or middle/high school students), and tear-down (help us clean up after our little monsters).

Pick up a form in the front office if you'd like your child's photo taken on re-take day.

Looking for a fun family outing? Explore Bella Organic Farm's corn maze! Every ticket purchased using this link will raise funds for Capitol Hill. The maze has 2.7 miles of trails, is dog-friendly, and kiddos 5 and under are free! There is also a pumpkin patch to get your carving pumpkins and take some photos of your littles. What an easy opportunity to get your family moving outside while positively impacting our school! This fundraiser lasts the entire month of October. See you there!

Oregon Battle of the Books

Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is about to get started! OBOB is a statewide competition where teams of 4 students battle to answer trivia questions about the books they've read. OBOB is open to 3rd to 5th graders (and is completely voluntary). OBOB's mission is to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, to broaden reading interests, to increase reading comprehension, promote academic excellence, and to promote cooperative learning and teamwork among students.
Is your bookworm interested? Next steps:

  1. Get a team of 4-5 readers assembled (4 teammates compete, a 5th teammate acts as an alternate; teammates can be in different grades/classes)
  2. Complete a Permission Form (1 per participating student) and a Team Contract (1 per team) - these can be found in the front office (paper), or online here and are due by 10/31/2024
  3. Start reading!

Teachers' Favorite Things

Capitol Hill is full of incredible teachers and staff. If you're ever inclined to show your family's gratitude, our Staff Appreciation Team (chaired by Jordan Hood & Lauren Pupik) keeps up a list of their favorite things! Click here to see what type of treat or caffeinated beverage your child's teacher might enjoy.

Join a Capitol Hill PTA Meeting

The Capitol Hill PTA is a wonderful group of parents and school staff who oversee almost every event that our students enjoy!

The PTA meets monthly. Meetings are hosted by the board, and open to all parents and Capitol Hill staff. Each meeting has a guest speaker or topic of the month, and is a great chance to ask questions, meet other families, and learn about the work we are doing to raise funds for our teachers and school. You do not need to be a paying member to join a meeting.

Upcoming meetings:

November 13

December 11

January 8

February 5

March 12

5:30pm - 6:30pm in the Capitol Hill Library. If you're unable to attend in person, a Zoom link is sent the week of the meeting. All are welcome.
