Staff Appreciation Coffee Drive

Our Staff Appreciation Team (chaired by Jordan Hood & Lauren Pupik) is hosting a Coffee Drive to keep our amazing Capitol Hill staff caffeinated!

From September 19 - September 27, there will be a donation bin in the school entry way. Please bring a bag of your favorite coffee beans (ground or whole bean), a box of your favorite tea, or any delicious add-ons (creamer, honey, etc.) to share with our beloved educators.

School Picture Day

School picture day is Tuesday, September 24th

All students will have their photo taken for the yearbook. If you would like to order photos, visit mylifetouch.com and enter EVTF2V8WQ as the "Picture Day ID." There will be a re-take day scheduled for late October.

Yearbooks are provided free of charge to all Capitol Hill students thanks to the generosity of our PTA! No need to order - all students will receive their yearbook at the end of the school year!

Back to School Night

Back to School Night is an open-house style event on Wednesday, September 25th at 5:30pm, hosted by Principal Mike Sauers and school staff. Meet for a whole-school welcome, then have your students give you a tour of their school! You can visit their classroom and specials rooms, talk to their teachers, and see where they spend their days. Stay tuned for more details from Principal Sauers.

Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming up, and it is just as exciting as it was in the 90's! During the week of September 30th - October 4th, students will be able to shop in the Capitol Hill library for books and other goodies!

Send cash with your child, or set up their eWallet in advance.

Grandfriends will also have the opportunity to attend the book fair with their students and make purchases.

Interested in being involved? Click here to sign up to volunteer at the fair.

Dining Out Night

Every month, our PTA has lined up a place to take your family to enjoy food and/or beverages and benefit our school!

On Wednesday, October 2nd, visit Level Beer's Multnomah Village taproom between 4pm and 8pm for some delicious drafts - Level will donate a portion of their sales to Capitol Hill! Note: Level does not serve food, but welcomes you to bring a packed dinner or takeout. Kids are welcome!

Grandfriends Day

Grandfriends Day, Friday, October 4th, is an opportunity for your student to share their school! A grandfriend is any adult who your child deems special - they could be a grandparent, relative, family friend, neighbor, even you! They can give their special person a tour of their classroom, have refreshments in the cafeteria, and attend the Scholastic Book Fair (until 10:30am). Look in your child's take-home folder for more information soon!

Volunteer Opportunities

Our fun events are 100% volunteer-run, and we need a lot of parent power to make things run smoothly. Below are our most pressing needs - they vary in time (day, night, weekend, or unscheduled) and style (from solitary to social) - please take a look and sign up for as much as you can. There is something for everyone!

Book Fair

  • Cashiers (morning or afternoon, only 45 minutes)
  • Setup and break-down

Grandfriends Day

  • Purchase food/coffee (with PTA funds)
  • Greet visitors
  • Setup and break-down

Walk & Roll to School

  • Walk alongside our students to keep them safe (crowd control)

Family Fun Nights

  • Put on the school dance, family movie night, or OMSI night

Classroom Volunteering

  • Photography - one parent per class needed to take photos throughout the school year for our free yearbook
  • Gardening - one parent per class to help with prep work, planting and lessons (does not need a green thumb, all materials will be provided)

PTA Board Opening

  • Our board has an opening for a Volunteer Coordinator to help Tabitha Ames with recruitment of awesome volunteers like you

Auction Committee

  • Our school has an annual fundraising auction in the springtime, and we need to get planning ASAP! This role can be done by a singular parent or a group - if you like event planning and have creative ideas, there is a lot of flexibility and freedom with this one! Last year our auction brought in over $80K!

Schoolyard Project

  • Let's transform our schoolyard from blacktop to an inviting, green play space! We are looking for folks to donate their brainpower - especially if you have experience with: architecture, construction, engineering, landscaping, project management, grant writing, or general awesomeness. Contact schoolyard@capitolhillelementary.com for more information.

Show your children how we come together as a caring community to provide safe and exciting events that help their teachers, classrooms, and school. We cannot do this without you

Join the Capitol Hill PTA

The Capitol Hill PTA is a critical component of the Capitol Hill elementary experience. Our PTA is a wonderful group of parents and school staff who oversee almost every event that our students enjoy! Joining the PTA is a great way to: get involved, meet other families, enrich your child's school experience, have access to information, and raise funds to benefit our teachers and school.

Membership for the entire school year is only $15 for an individual and $25 for two people, and joining will allow you a vote on PTA decisions (how to spend the budget, proposals, and more) and access to the PTA Family Directory.

Reminder: if you were a member last year, you will need to re-purchase a membership for the 2024-2025 school year. Introverted? No pressure - joining the PTA is not an obligation to do anything beyond being a presence in our caring community. (Note: if you would like to join the PTA and are in need of a scholarship, please contact Treasurer1@capitolhillelementary.com.)

Join us for a meeting! You do not need to be a paying member to attend PTA meetings or volunteer at events. All are welcome.
